Day 154 - Goal Setting, 1 of 5 - Define What You Want

A lot of people set goals in one step.

This is one of the primary reasons you will fail to accomplish goals. Life will get in the way. Unforeseen values, expectations or relationships might pull you away from your goal.

You will want to start with a strong foundation when setting your goals. First organize what you want to accomplish by answering the following questions.

  1. What do I want? (Be specific)
  2. Why do I want it?
  3. When do I want it by? (Be specific)

You can use a goals step 1 spreadsheet like this to better organize your goals and then structure them by date.

Day 148 - Why I record a daily podcast every day.

Doing something every day is hard. It's annoying.

It's freeing too. The rhythm allows you to suck. You just have to publish. Today was a busy day at work, so I took 10 min in a closet to record today's show. It sucked. I haven't listened yet.

The point is to do it. That was the point of this show when I started, and it remains the same 148 days later. Here's to 365 ... hopefully, 36.5 of those are amazing.

Day 147 - When you pick your priorities, things automatically balance

I struggle to find balance in my life. It's a battle between different groups, different people and various projects asking for my time. I think a lot of people struggle with this same challenge. A lot of people have it harder than me; I'm a single guy, and I only have to worry about myself.

When I've felt balanced in life, I focused on something. My life fell into place around what I focused on. Maybe achieving balance is the wrong goal. Maybe we should get clear about what our priorities are. Might that be the way to achieving balance?
